Ddj Ergo K Traktor Pro 2

Jul 31, 2013  I've recently just bought DDJ Ergo K and I've upgraded it from Traktor LE 2 to Traktor Pro 2. But after I activate my Traktor Pro 2 and I start it, I can't seems to be using the Hot Cues buttons on the DDJ Ergo K, same goes to the Sampler Buttons. The DDJ-ERGO-K will be available from Late August 2012 at a SRP of 429 GBP/499 EUR, including VAT. Key features of the DDJ-ERGO-K. Bundled with Traktor LE 2 for instant plug and play; DJs can use the DDJ-ERGO-K straight out of the box with the included Traktor LE 2 software. The DDJ-ERGO-K’s user-friendly interface makes all Traktor LE 2’s.

From my viewpoint, I see Pioneer as the world leaders for CDJ manufacturing, they have always been the industry standard for CDJ’s and from my experienced coined the name CDJ. Similarly to how people call their mp3 players iPods even if it’s not an iPod; many people now call their DJ CD players, CDJ’s. 1994 saw the first real CDJ product, the CDJ-500.
From this point onwards Pioneer went from strength to strength and produced the most commonplace CDJ’s the CDJ1000. Most clubs will be sporting the CDJ 1000s alongside a pair of ‘Technics’ Vinyl turntables. These particular products have dominated the club scene now for many years. With the leap into digital DJ’ing, I feel there is a sense of unease around the continued success of these club gear giants. Pioneer has released their most beautiful CDJ line yet (in my opinion) with the CDJ 900’s and CDJ 2000’s. These however are most often priced outside the reach of the humble start-up bedroom DJ. I would love a pair, but I am unable to afford these beauties!
Pioneer cleverly enabled this recent line of CDJ’s to send midi messages allowing DJ’s to control the ever popular Traktor DJ Software from Native Instruments. I know I have seen Steve Lawler using this set up in clubs before. With the recent update of Traktor 2.5.1, you can plug and play the CDJ 2000’s.

Pioneer targets entry level

The unease that I describe above brings me to Pioneers latest Traktor enabled release; the DDJ-ERGO-K. This controller is basically the DDJ-ERGO-V with a make over (black finish instead of white) and more compatibility with Traktor Software.

Although I haven’t yet handled the DDJ-ERGO-K (wow, thats a mouthful), I am sure it is an excellent choice for the bedroom DJ that wants the capability of a standard DJ set up with pretty lights. The lighting on this thing seems like it’s come straight out of a spaceship. With light indicators on the volume sliders, to light indicators on the platter that tell you how in time your mix is, it will certainly illuminate your face in pretty colours as you lean over it. The brighter your face glows blue, the more spot on the mix is going! It really does bring a whole new meaning to DJ’ing until your blue in the face!

It has a nifty little slot to slide your laptop under, which if like me, you have hotkeys set up on your laptop, will be useless or at best, annoying. Other than that it seems to have all the relevant buttons and nobs for standard mixing and effects. The one thing that hit me about this controller was the video that they are using to market the device.
Vst wikipedia. I’m not sure about you, but whist I watched this video I couldn’t help but think how unlikely it would be for me to carry my ‘ERGO’ around the streets and bust my macbook pro out and sit there rocking out a mix to myself on the streets. Leaving me completely unawares of the large group of youth creeping up on me with knives ready to grab my shit. So although I like your equipment pioneer, I think you messed up with this video.

Pioneer DDJ-ERGO LIMITED Controller includes:

  • Pulse Control – Integrated Pulse Control provides users with visual prompts.
    • Mix Pulse – As the pitch of songs begin to match, the intensity of white LED lights of the jog wheel increases. In conjunction with the music, the pulsing of lights enhances beat matching skills.
    • Beat Pulse – The embedded LEDs in the channel faders illuminate along with the beat of the current song playing. The illumination intensifies and weakens based on the output sound level.
    • Launch Pulse – Triggers a red light to illuminate on the jog wheel to signify a press of the track load button.
    • FX Pulse – The lights on the jog wheel identify which FX is applied.
  • DJ Software – Includes Native Instrument’s TRAKTOR LE 2 DJ software. When used with TRAKTOR PRO 2 (upgrade fees apply), the controller can also operate as a 4-deck controller and sampler. In addition, the unit supports Serato’s “Serato® DJ Intro” software (downloadable at no charge fromhttp://serato.com/dj-intro).
  • Laptop Dock Design – The DDJ-ERGO LIMITED is designed to accommodate the placement of a laptop computer below the unit to save room and bring the laptop screen closer to the user. The controller also features removable legs, enabling it be used in angled or horizontal flat positions.
  • USB Power – Utilizes the host computer’s USB port for power, eliminating the need for an external power supply.
  • High Quality Audio – Employs the same audio technology used in Pioneer’s professional DJ mixers for clear, powerful audio output.
  • Other features
    • Employs a P-LOCK Fader Cap locking mechanism to prevent the channel fader knobs and crossfader knob from slipping.
    • Built-in audio interface for high quality sound input and output.

Whats the Verdict?

Without having laid my hands on one, I don’t really qualify to say much about the DDJ-ERGO-K, so I will leave you all to do some more research and read up various reviews that you find laying around the internet. But for a release price of £429 / €499 and with a built in Audio interface and included Traktor LE software it doesn’t look like a bad place to begin.

  • Hi, I’m about to start djing and After a bit of probing, the DDJ-ergo limited edition is £429 with traktor Le2.

I can also get a second hand traktor s4 that is in full working conditions for £450 and then postage and packaging.

What would you recommend I buy? I don’t want to get equipment that I will need to upgrade when I gain more knowledge/skill djing but I don’t want to pay that bit more if I can get the same out the ergo.

Please, what would you all recommend an why? The price gap isn’t that different but being a student I have to be more conscious about how I spend my money sadly!

    Thanks

I would recommend the s4, if you can get it for that price and the traktor software is included.
I own the S4 and can’t imagine using traktor with any other controller.
The s4’s set up is a lot better for traktors work flow, and you have a 4 channel mixer. ( I didn’t think i would need the other two on the deck, but trust me, it comes in handy.)

So my opinion is, that if the 2nd seller is giving you Traktor pro 2 with the S4 then take it, $20 extra dollars for Pro over LE is well worth it. But if the seller is not willing to give you Traktor Pro 2 then i would recommend looking into the S2, same price if not cheaper than the ergo, and is designed much better for traktor.

    Breakdown time:
So as J-Duffin said before, the S4 is made with Traktor in mind. Traktor is mostly based toward EDM and controllerism with its multiple high quality effect banks, advanced looping controls, and many cue functions. It is a complex machine and can take some time to get used to if it is your first controller. However, it is EXTREMELY powerful with all of the functionalty built in to the controller and the software. There isn’t any learning curve with the controller to software because everything thing on the controller looks exactly the same on the software. Much like Mac apps, its made with to operate best with a certain set of hardware. It is really quite intuitive, IF you can get over the learning curve of Traktor(all considering you haven’t used it. If you have, THIS IS THE ULTIMATE TRAKTOR CONTROLLER!).

Now the ERGO may look kinda childish with all of its lights and shiny things, not to mention it has more plastic than Dolly Parton’s face, but that doesn’t mean its a child’s toy. This thing has a fully featured FX panel, much like the S4 and S2, a cue section, and a sample bank. The only thing it is missing compared to the S4 is the detailed looping segments and it has a 2 channel mixer instead of a 4 channel mixer. Another thing it is missing is size and weight (this is a good thing). Compared to the massive S4, you can drag this from venue to venue pretty easily. Its no Vestax Typhoon, but lugging it around isn’t going to be as arduous as a task. Also, it has a convenient laptop port so you can tuck your laptop underneath it so you can focus on the music. Also, because it is raised off ground, your controller isn’t going to get completely ruined if some idiot comes in and “spills” his “adult beverage” right next to it.

If you don’t like the price of the S4 compared with the functionality of the ERGO, you might want to look into the S2. It effectively shaves off most of the unnecessary things from the S4 and puts it into a much thinner, smaller, lighter, not to mention less expensive, 2 channel DJ controller. Also, factoring the cost of the upgrade to Traktor pro from the ERGO could put you back quite a bit of cash in comparison.

    Hope it helped!

I wouldn’t really recommend the ERGO or WEGO to anyone. In my honest opinion, there are many better controllers at their price point.

Yeah, Ergo vs S4 – there shouldn’t even be a debate over this. A no brainer really.

For starting out and wanting to use Traktor their are not many controllers better then NI S2/4 series. SO for me it’s also a no brainer

S4 for sure. I have an S2 and love it! If I could get an S4 for cheap I would jump on it. 🙁 But hey the only thing I’m really missing is decks C+D and I’m going to get a F1 or midi fighter 3D for those anyways.

Hi am looling at getting my first controller any thoughts on the S4 vs VCI 300 mk2 . Both get great review’s, guess its also traktor vs serato.

    What software are you using?

That is a question we can’t really answer, because Traktor and Serato are so different, you have to find what would be best for you, and your style of DJing. Someone might say Serato is the best, but it might not be what your looking for, so do the research on both, and decide which one would best suit you before making your choice.

Exactly! 🙂 I started on VDJ and it got me through the basics. Then I tried serato and it just didn’t jive with me. Then i came to Traktor and fell in love. We have been happily married for 3 years lol
